Latina Wedding Practices Explained

Latin America is definitely comprised of so many different ethnicities and languages, every region has its unique customs and customs. This means that adding Latin wedding ceremony traditions in to the celebration will be totally unique to you and your fiancé.

On many occasions, these practices have spiritual significance. An example of this can be posting the banns, which allows friends to pray in your case before the marriage. It also gives people the opportunity to give you gifts that are intended to help you start your married life to the right feet.

A further tradition that’s common in Latin America is the exchange of todas las arras, or wedding coins. Throughout the ceremony, the bride and groom should always be presented with 13 gold coins that represent Jesus and his 12 apostles. These kinds of coins are then blessed by priest and passed via individual to individual before staying given to the bride and groom.

In most cases, Latinx couples don’t have bridesmaids or groomsmen, instead the wedding ceremony party features the padrinos (the godparents of the couple) and the flower girl and ring bearer. The padrinos are usually married themselves and are chosen by the couple as special teachers in their lives. Fortunately they are the ones who will sponsor the arras and lazo.
